    Join the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department and the Wood County District Public Library as we learn about the wonderful world of birds and their rocking songs! On Wednesday, June 13 at 2 PM we will begin our adventure at Wintergarden/St. John's Nature Preserve with stories. We will follow that up with a hike to fine tune our listening ears and match songs with birds of the preserve! This is a free, drop in program.

    Get in the Earth Day spirit and volunteer with the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department at the Wintergarden/St. John's Nature Preserve! Help protect spring wildflowers by assisting with removal of the invasive garlic mustard. This is an all ages activity and a rare chance to venture off the trail to explore while helping to take care of the park.     Birding Workshop for Adults

    Join naturalist and birder Chris Gajewicz for a morning of birding during the peak of spring migration. Participants will learn handy tools for identifying common and uncommon birds in our area. There will also be an opportunity to learn which optics, guides, and apps work best for birders. This workshop is designed for adults who have an interest in birding regardless of their experience. Binoculars and field guides can be borrowed from the nature center for the workshop and participants are welcome to bring their own as well. The workshop will begin at the nature center at Wintergarden Park and if time allows, we will also take a short trip to other areas around Bowling Green to take in bird species that generally are not found at Wintergarden. Registration for this program is necessary and a fee of $10 per person will need to be paid upon registration which can be done online at or http://www.bgohio.org/departments/parks-and-recreation/ in person at the Bowling Green Community Center and Simpson Building at Simpson Garden Park during regular business hours.     Come out to the Wintergarden/St. John's Nature Preserve and help to care for and restore the park! Along the way we will see and learn about the plants and wildlife we are helping. Activities include seed collecting, planting of seeds and transplants, removal of weeds and trail maintenance. Activities may be cancelled if inclement weather prevents outdoor activities. Wearing long pants and sturdy shoes is advised.

    Join Ohio Bigfoot Researcher, Marc DeWerth for a presentation, discussion, and first hand stories about the elusive creature known as Bigfoot. Mr. DeWerth is the organizer of the Ohio Bigfoot Conference, one of the largest in the US and has spent over 25 years studying evidence, collecting experiences, and investigating Bigfoot encounters right here in Ohio. No registration is needed for this program and space is limited so you'll want to arrive early. The program will take place on Saturday, March 24th and will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Wintergarden Park Nature Center.

    Join the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department for the second annual Bowling Green Seed Swap. This event is free and open to the public. Scratch that gardening itch by bringing leftover seeds to share and replenish your stock for the upcoming growing season. Vegetable, flower and native plant seeds are welcome! Houseplants and bulbs are allowed with proper containers and labeling. Never been to a seed swap? Here’s what you can expect:
    Participants are encouraged to bring plant seeds to share with other plant enthusiasts.
    All seeds to be exchanged must be enclosed in plastic zip bags and must be labeled appropriately.
    Participants can have their own designated table for their own seeds or seeds can be added to communal tables/bins in the center of the room.

    A FREE children’s activity area will be available for seed planting.
    Musical entertainment will be provided throughout the event!
    Light refreshments will be available for a donation… coffee, baked goods, etc.
    Take some seeds, leave some seeds, share gardening stories and planting knowledge with like-minded gardeners who wish to grow their own food, expand your collection of landscape flowers, and help the environment by growing native plants!
    This year we will also have gardening experts share their knowledge with information sessions at 9:30am and at 11:00 am, presenters to be announced at a later date.

    Join Nature Center staff for a hike and activities at the Wintergarden/St. John's Nature Preserve throughout the year to Embrace the Season! These free family programs will be held at the beginning and mid-point of each season. Days and times will vary. Programs will be limited to 7 families for each program.
